After 14 years as Second Master of Epsom College, Paul Williams is set to step down from this role and become our Director of International Development from September 2025. The College has ambitious plans to create a network of international schools and Paul will lead on this initiative.
“Paul has lived and breathed Epsom College since he joined in 1984,” said Head, Mark Lascelles. “There’s no one better than him to promote our values and ethos to new countries. His extensive knowledge of the College, and the deep relationships he has nurtured with our vast network of Old Epsomians, means he’s perfectly placed to become the public face of Epsom across the world.”
Paul started his career at Epsom as a Teacher of Maths and has coached rugby, cricket, football, hockey (boys and girls) and cross country. He has also been a boarding Housemaster, Head of Transition/Year 9 and, latterly, Second Master. In short, Paul has – at one stage or another – experienced almost every aspect of College life.
Epsom College – A Way of Life
It is no exaggeration to say that the College is a deep, and incredibly meaningful part of Paul’s life, being much more to him than a place of work. Paul met his wife Sarah here. They married in the College Chapel, and both their boys studied at the College.
Over the past four decades, Paul has embodied Epsom College and it is this this level of dedication and service that saw Paul named Tatler’s Unsung Hero at last year’s Tatler Schools Awards. Click here to read that story and to view a gallery of images of Paul Williams through the ages.
“Paul is the embodiment of the College and its values of kindness, ambition and integrity. He was a friend of mine long before I applied for the Headship, and the support he has shown me since I accepted the job has been phenomenal,” said Mark. “What he has given to the College across his time here will never be forgotten, but – even more so – the way he became the source of strength and support for the whole community in 2023 is, I believe, the very reason Epsom is now able to look forward to even greater success.”
