Our Lower School provided a thrilling musical concert to a full Big School. There was a range of excellent solo performances from singers and instrumentalists, covering the whole artistic gamut from Chopin and Handel to Keane and Nirvana.
The wide array of musical activities on offer at the College were on show – the Lower School Orchestra began proceedings with a stirring rendition of Aaron Copland’s Hoe-down, before building the tension with Grieg’s Hall of the Mountain King.
The String Trio – comprising Annabel Eaves, Scarlett Li, and Ian Wong – were of particular note with an exceptional level of musicianship shown in their performance of two movements from Antonin Dvorak’s Four Miniatures.
The Lower School Acapella harmonised beautifully to the tune of Stand By Me, and to end the concert the Junior Blues group struck a chord with an appreciative audience.
Mr Johnson-Hyde remarked: “the number of high-level performances is an excellent sign for the future of the College’s music-making”.
