Francesca Beard ran a creative writing workshop for Year 7 pupils, spoke to staff about her life and work, and later acted as a judge for the Year 9 Poetry Competition.
The competition this year was fierce, with a host of fantastic poems submitted by Year 9 pupils; ten were ultimately shortlisted to be read aloud at the performance evening. Of these, Francesca chose to highly commend the work of Yasmin Canty and George Poole-Conner. The winner of the competition was judged to be Melissa Chee, for her wonderful poem The ‘Used To’ Classroom.
Francesca was an inspiring reader and speaker and the College is very grateful for her taking the time out of her busy schedule, working with refugee communities, to visit us.
