At the end of Lent Term, nine teams from Epsom College competed in the final of the Perse Coding Team Challenge.
The annual competition, run by The Perse School in Cambridge, is open to pupils in Years 7-11. Teams from secondary schools across the UK and around the world battle it out over two rounds for certificates, testing their skills in a range of challenges which increase in difficulty and complexity. Each of the College’s nine teams was comprised of three students, following qualification into the final earlier in the year.
With an incredible collective effort, and six distinctions awarded to Epsom pupils, the College placed 32nd of 640 teams. This jump up the league table for 2023 was due to all the effort of the Epsom’s coders, but especially the two teams that were awarded distinctions.
The team of Viktor Chistyakov (Upper Fourth), Timothey Lomizov (Upper Fourth) and Alexa Neglen (Middle Fourth) earned distinctions each and were also named ‘Best In School’.
Following closely behind, with just two points difference, was the team of Thomas Stapely (Fifth Form), Sean Lung (Fifth Form) and Otto Scott Holland (Middle Fourth) who were also each awarded distinctions.
Other certificates were awarded to two other Epsom teams: James Durup (Upper Fourth), Harry Shan (Upper Fourth) and Mara Savastre (Middle Fourth) and Aran Pramoj (Upper Fourth), Pan Xanthakos (Upper Fourth) and Sophia Kwok (Middle Fourth).
