Success in Tennis this week centres around the Surrey Tier 1 and Tier 2 competitions at St George’s Weybridge. The U18, U16, U14 and U12 teams entered both boys and girls into the competition, with Ciara Moore and Ariana Newton retaining their Surrey Tier 1 U16 title in emphatic style with victory over City of London Freemen’s School in the final.
Success for the boys came for Peter Burgansky and Sam Hern who won the U14 Boys Surrey Tier 2 title. Well done to these players!
Block fixtures at the weekend saw a 9-0 win for the girls 1st team and clean sweeps for the U14 girls’ teams vs St Mary’s Ascot, while the U15 boys were also unbeaten against Dulwich.
In Cricket, sadly wet pitches at away venues restricted matches last weekend but at home there was another good win for the Boys’ 1st team. Year 10 pupil Ben van Emden took 5-14 to bowl out Hurstpierpoint for just 78. There were also good wins for the Boys’ U12As and U13As vs Wilson’s, with Spencer Braithwaite scoring an unbeaten 50. The Girls’ U12As won a thrilling match by 1 run.
In cup competitions, the Girls’ 1st team defeated Kingston Grammar by 10 wickets, while the U15A girls also won by 10 wickets against Sutton High.
The Senior Athletes competed well at the Copenhagen & Pelican Shield Co-Ed event in Reading. 17 individual victories were claimed at this highly competitive meeting. At present the final team results are being checked but a top two finish is confirmed, with overall victory still a possibility – watch this space!
Epsom Lower School athletes won the home tournament on Saturday, with 26 individual victories across all events. Another meeting mid-week saw further success – more details will emerge when final results are released.
In Gymnastics Noemie Winmill has been included in the Category IDP1 (International Development Programme1). She obtained first place in the UK inter-regionals.
In other individual success, Year 10 footballer Charlie Walker-Smith represented Crystal Palace this week in the U15 Floodlit Cup as they became champions of the South with a 5-0 victory against Arsenal. Next up is the final against the North to become national champions.
In Golf, Year 10 pupil Kris Kim won the prestigious 2023 Fairhaven trophy, Kris (-8) won the boys’ trophy by six shots.
