This week we welcomed Old Epsomian and former Head of School, Mr Aidan Smith (Class of 2015), back to Epsom to speak to our Lower Sixth economists about his less conventional journey from the College to his role as Senior Trade Surveillance Analyst at the market maker Winterflood Securities.
Aidan guided the group through his journey, from reading Chemical Engineering at University to his current position. It was an insightful talk that engaged the Economics Society members and it was nice to welcome Aidan back to the College for the afternoon.
Earlier this term we were fortunate to host Mr Victor Chuckwuemeka, a consultant at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, who spoke to the Economics Society members about his varied and successful career which has spanned investment banking, consultancy as well as work across various Government departments.
As well as opening students’ eyes to the pros and cons of the varied career possibilities for those with an Economics degree, Victor also spoke about the research he conducted on Optimal Currency Areas during his PhD at the London School of Economics. Victor currently runs China Funds Research, a company set up to facilitate sales of western businesses to Chinese buyers, as he continues to commercialise his research. We wish him the best of luck with these and all future endeavours.
