On 17th October, the College Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong in the magnificent setting of St Paul’s Cathedral, London.
Prior to Evensong, parents of the choristers and Old Epsomians enjoyed a tour of the cathedral, organised by the Development Department.
50 members of the Chapel Choir were in fine voice singing a varied programme of liturgical music which included Murrell’s setting of the Evening Service in E Major alongside Wood’s magnificent anthem ‘Hail Gladdening Light’. This eight-part and unaccompanied anthem allowed the choristers to bask in the fabulous acoustic of one of the country’s most iconic venues.
Director of Music, Mr Paul Johnson-Hyde, said: “The choir sung with maturity and sensitivity. To present music of such a high quality so early in the academic year, on top of their usual weekly output, is a testament to the hard work and dedication the choristers displayed in rehearsals”.
