The guest speaker was Dr Helen Fry, an esteemed historian who has written and edited over 25 books and specialises in the history of intelligence and espionage.
Dr Fry drew the captivated audience into the world of espionage and World War II history, delivering a fascinating talk entitled ‘The Walls Have Ears’. She told the incredible story of the ‘secret listeners’ – British intelligence officers who listened in on the private conversations of German Prisoners of War in World War II – and took a wide range of questions following the talk.
Prior to the lecture, five of our Lower Sixth History students had the privilege of having dinner with Dr Fry to welcome her to the College. The students took the opportunity to ask a vast range of questions about her areas of expertise and career as a historian as well as discussing academia and University study more generally in a lively and engaging conversation for all.
